![]() Matthew and Cathy finally tied the knot! After happily deciding to change locations from Ft. Myer (Army Base) in Arlington, Virginia, to a fantasy wedding in fabulous Las Vegas. This will be their day to remember forever.
"Sorry, Elvis had left the building long ago!!!"
Our wedding took place on the HMS Britannia at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino on the 21st of June 2001 at 12:30 P.M., when the sun was at it's meridian during the beginning of Summer. The Britannia is one of the two pirate ships used in the evening show in front of the Treasure Island Hotel (it's the same ship which sinks in the show). At first, we were going the traditional wedding route. After some serious thought, Cathy decided she wanted something with a little more "kick", a little more memorable, where everyone who came could have a good time. What better place than in Las Vegas, Nevada, which was also Matt's "playground" when he was younger. Our guests were viewing our wedding on a decorated outdoor balcony which off to the side, not actually on the ship. The balcony had tables, chairs, a bar, and had a good view of the ceremony. I was uncertain about the new wedding plans in the beginning, due to the fact that I did NOT want Elvis or rather "an" Elvis to marry us. A stereotypical Vegas wedding sounded very cheezy to me. I later learned that this was not the case. We actually "rented" the ship in front of the hotel, had it decorated, and had the wedding cast dress up in a pirate theme. Cathy's Father Daniel, walked her down the aisle and stayed by her side on the ship, then he gave her away to Matthew. Matt's good friend Aaronate was his chosen best man and stayed on the ship as well. The Minister was the Captain of the ship and one of the shipmates was the ring bearer whom swang down from the crow's nest and delivered the rings to us. They both did an excellent job. We had a great photographer, videographer, and coordinator which helped us out iimmensely with capturing our memories. The whole fantasy scene was spoken and acted out as if in the time of pirates. Our wedding was short, sweet, and to the point, yet very unique. I (Matt) was kind of glad it was short because it was quite hot outside. The colors we chose were black and white with electric blue as the accent color. Cathy had a beautiful bouquet of assorted draping flowers and various types of greenery. They too matched our color scheme. Cathy's dress was by Jessica McClintock which was modified for a more custom look and fit. Her veil was 10 feet long and was custom made with a removable silver and rhinestone tiara. Her shoes were bright blue, club-style platforms and inside of one of them was a lucky six pense coin which was given to her by her new Father-in-law, Mickey. Cathy's French manicure was done by a local nail tech and had small hand-painted matching flowers on each nail. Her hair was done by a local well-known stylist whom did a wonderful job. A professional Vegas make-up artist applied her custom make-up which too was quite beautiful. Matthew's tuxedo was an Armani consisting of an electric blue vest and matching bow-tie. Matthew's hair was done by another local stylist with his nails professionally manicured as well. Our matching wedding rings are both custom made of 14K white gold with yellow gold accents. Cathy's rings are a wrap consisting of a colorless 1ct. solitaire marquis (main focus) with a row of 6 small round cut diamonds. Matthew's ring is a band consisting of 5 round cut colorless diamonds in a row which are of excellent clarity as well.Last Update: 06/13/03
